As the seamster comes to an end i reflect on the the tinges will take way from this course. One thing i know, although it sounds like it will be hard to use in the classroom, Is to really appreciate student thinking and let them learn in ways they feel comfortable. Another thing i can take away from this course is the framework you taught us. I have never heard of that framework and when trying to explain to my mother that has been with the Clark County School District for 25 years she had never heard of it. I thought it was neat to teach my mom something that was interesting that I had learned that she never did. I wish there were more classes like your to really take a look at student thinking and base our teaching styles on that thinking instead of what the teacher feels comfortable doing. From a scale of 0-2 I would give my blog a 2.

Its really nice that without studying for any of the quizzes I got at least 4 out of the 5 possible points. That means I am retaining the information and not just trying to memorize the information like I do in most classes because of the overload o things needed to be learned. When it came time to do the manipulative assessment I drew a blank. It was so weird because I knew what to do and which problem type I had I just could not for the life of me think of how to write a word problem for it. After about 30 minutes of thinking I got it.

I really like this class. For the first time in a long time I feel as if I am learning things I have not been taught before. With many other classes I have taken recently because we are all so close to finishing, it has felt as if we are hearing the same thing. I have never looked at math in this way and I love you we are giving the student the choice of how they want to solve problems. Why were we always taught how to solve math without teachers letting us do it on our own? Talking to peers I feel as if a lot of people in the class feel the same way. Finally being taught something memorable!!!

After doing centers in class today I realized how fun math can be. When I was in school there were no centers and I have still never been exposed to a math center. I had lots of fun an working with team members new ideas were brought to the table. Laura thought of weighing what we knew was equivalent to 88 pieces of candy and then adding candy in with it because we did not have enough. I thought that was a great idea. I had lots of fun in class today.
I was really surprised when we went into the other classroom and the other students were not learning the same stuff as we are learning. I kept hearing them say well that one is hared because the numbers are bigger and I remember the previous class you saying that the numbers do not make the problem easier or harder to solve. I felt actually really smart, like finally in one of my 400 level courses I had been learning something and not just doing theoretical lesson plans for make believe students.

I was sorry to miss the last class but due to family issues I was unable to attend. The last class i went to I was only there for a short period but I feel like by watching the videos it is really opening up how children think. So many things have changed in teaching since I was in school. I think the way things are being taught now is great. The teachers are not just teaching the material to get through the day but really trying to analyze the child and how they learn and think.
